AJENT LOGO

How did you start DJing?

I love and have always had a passion for music. I grew up around it and it rubbed off on me. My father worked in the media industry in Nigeria and had a Saturday night radio show that hosted the best African DJs, and being around that inspired me to express my love for music in the form of DJing.

Where is DJ Obi from?

While I was born in the states, I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, and claim that side of my upbringing.

DJ OBI BLVD NYC

What should someone expect, at a party that you are DJing at?

I always say “pull out your passports, cause I’m gonna take you on a musical journey around the world,” and that is what anyone that experiences DJ Obi at any event should expect. I love to play music that no one has heard or is even used to. I love to play with the beats and drums of songs, and when people hear drums there’s only one thing to do DANCE!!!!.

What makes you different from all the other DJs?

One obvious thing that sets me apart from most DJs, is my culture coupled with my unique style of mixing and blending international music with your everyday tunes. It will be hard for me to become a radio DJ because I can’t stick to just one genre of music. I play U.K funky House, Afro Hip Hop, Afro beats, B-more, House, Soca, Zouk etc. You name it and I play it, if I don’t have it, I will find it.

Hottest DJ of the Month – DJ Half Pint

Pint12How did you start DJing?

My Pops is a DJ so I developed the passion for spinning records early in life. When other kids were playing with toys I was DJing imaginary parties on my make believe DJ equipment. Once I got old enough my dad and his partner would let me practice on their equipment. When I turned 18 I decided to DJ professionally.

•

How did you get the name DJ Half Pint?

In the early ninety’s I ran with a DJ crew called Battle-Dogg Productions, I used to go by Greg Nice. One day were in the lab working on a mixtape together and one of the members called me 1/2 Pint Greg Nice. I think the Half Pint was because I was so little back then. I went by that for a little while then dropped the Greg Nice and I been DJ Half Pint ever since.

•

Where is DJ Half Pint from, and what’s your station?l_884d55453537c5fb4234fe80d4a81f74

I am from Providence, RI and DJ on Hot 106 Providence, RI.

•

What should someone expect, at a party that you are DJing at?

People can expect to rock out & have a good time…No Boredom No Standing Around…We Party.

•

What makes you different from all the other DJs?

What makes me different is I DJ my way and stay within my means. While I always will play what the crowd wants to hear I don’t try to DJ outside of my style or over do it…alot of djs try to do more than they have the skill to do and the crowd that you are djing for doesn’t respond well to that.

DJ Dru Nyce – Rhoaming Hottest DJ’s

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

drunyce5How did you start DJing?

I started DJ’ing bcuz I was always on punishment & had to find a way to pass the time. My brother was a barber (and still is) and he used to cut hair in the basement. He used to play music for his clients from upstairs in the bedroom. He always used to ask me to make sure the music kept playing so he wouldn’t have to keep coming upstairs to change it. So I used to change & flip the cassettes after they ran out. At the time cds were just starting to get popular so he had a few that I would also change as well. This was all at the age of 12-13 yrs old. But one day I got an idea in my head. I said damn! this song will sound hot after this one & what if I can make them mix together?! So I started mixing the songs between a cassette deck & cd player. But that wasn’t enough. My dad had piles & piles of 7 inch records & full length 12 inch albums laying around the house that he had collected through the years from when he used to keep parties. I then located a used record player (turntable) that my dad had & started to play the records, cassettes & cds for my brother and at the same time wondering how to transition from a record player to a cassette and then to a cd. I had no clue. I knew there was a better way. That’s when I was told about a “MIXER”. Which is what is used to basically bridge the gap between multiple audio devices. After all of this I combined the equipment and then started on my journey as a DJ!

DJ Hectik – Rhoaming Hottest DJ’s

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

djhectik2How did you know that DJing was your calling?

I knew I wanted to become a DJ after helping my cousin out with his gigs in Puerto Rico. Once I got back to Boston my older sister bought me my first set and it was on. I’ve always been about music, played a few instruments before DJing. My Parents just said I always had a music ear.

How did you get the name DJ Hectik?

I was given the name by my cousin V.S. He’s a local rapper that I always helped get instrumentals to spit bars over.

Where is DJ Hectik from?

I’m from Cambridge, MA. half Dominican, half Puerto Rican.

Where do you see the Art of DJing in 5 years, with the technological advances?

Technology is bringing pro’s and con’s to the DJ scene. A lot more DJ’s now than in the past, but at the end of the day your equipment doesn’t have anything to do with it. You are either born with the skill or not. I just hope the technological advances don’t take away the true art out of DJing because it has already started.

What set you apart from all the other DJs?

I am so universal with the music that I play and can DJ for any crowd. I play enough of everything to make everyone happy. I like to say I’m going to take you around the world.

djhectik1What is one of your most memorable events that you DJ’ed at, and why?

Most memorable has to be the paris hilton party I DJ’ed at Rumor. Not every one gets to DJ and share a stage with such an a-list celeb. Was a dope party!

Hottest DJ of the Month – DJ PLAYTIME

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

djplaytime3

As the club lights dimmed, the spotlight is focused on two hands.  The audience waits in anticipation as the two hands begin to mix, scratch and pump out some of the hottest music today.  The crowd can’t help but to dance and rock to the beats this DJ blasts.  Who is this DJ who can move the party like no other?  It’s the one and only, DJ Playtime.

-myspace.com

How did you know that DJing was your calling?

I knew DJing was my calling when I went to school for Electrical Engineering and decided that I would rather spin records for a living. Back in High School I had went to boarding school and I had a friend from New York City by the name of Dade Faison who at the time was a DJ that had turntables in his dorm room. I begged my mother and aunt for my own set of turntables and after a few years they bought them for me. I would practice scratching for hours. My friends would call them scratch attacks. Eventually the time I would practice turned into Playtime and the name started from there. Ladies, me being a playa has nothing to do with it!

Where is DJ PLAYTIME from?

I currently reside in Hartford, CT but I believe soon I’ll make the Jump and transition to Boston, MA

What makes you different from all the other DJs?

djplaytime2

Every DJ should Have their own style. I am a very energetic entertainer. I like high energy crowds and I use my mic and song selection to motivate the audience. I switch records fast … some DJ’s don’t and are very good, but that’s my style. I also have a lot of experience. A lot of DJ’s are young and haven’t traveled or learned music in depth. In the last 12 months I have played in LA, Vegas, Chicago, Miami, New York, Providence, Boston, Hartford, Orlando and many more. You have to play different in every city and the ability to do that sets me apart from other DJ’s. Also my range is very wide: I play house, rock, hip-hop, reggae, old school etc …

Crack Tracks!

Old Dayz – Real P, Cam, Donnie Dee

Love Now – Real P

So Boston – Real P

Tonight – Real P

DJ, Emcee, and Official Party Rocker DJ ReaL P (Chimel Idiokitas) has established himself as a BOSS in Boston’s Nightlife and Entertainment Scene. Specializing in your favorite genre, REAL has the knowledge of music to play R&B, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Oldies, Top 40, Kompa, & House. Being one-fifth of the Legendary Sound Revolution Family, REAL has built his career on QUALITY & PASSION for the music.

When did you start DJing?

I started DJing in 2001. One of my best friends Big Jigg actually sold me my first pair of Gemini turntables for $50. With only 2 records I used to lock myself in my room for hours and record everything on cassette.

djrealp2

How’d you get the name Real P?

The name Real P is actually short for RealPolitikz. That name was given to me by my 10th grade History teacher who claimed I would make a great politician. I told him “NA!!” Im too REAL for that. And it stuck.

Lets keep it REAL, are you originally from Boston?

I was born in Houston, TX, but Im sooooo Boston. Grew up in Roxbury with 6 brothers and both parents who are both from West African descent.

What makes you different from other DJs?

I know music, I make music, and I love music. Alot of DJs just think its pressing play, I think its more-so telling a story. So if you hear me DJ you will notice how I try to connect songs, sounds, or even phrases. The computer DJs who just compile music and dont actually appreciate them are killing the game.
