In our first installment of “Best in the Biz” we have the beautiful Liz Miranda of Dstination Lifestyle and Entertainment Group, formerly E1live Events with an Edge. Liz has been an integral part in the success of New England Nightlife and we’re here today to learn more about Ms. Liz!
How did you get started in events promotions?
In 1999 I was a sophomore doing great events on campus and around boston and Eddie Cue and Justin Springer gave me an opportunity to do a sorority party at a club and it was amazing. I also had a classmate Solie who started promoting before me and she took me out every week and I learned each time.
I then worked at many spots under individuals and when I graduated I said to myself, ” I can rock out on the solo as a chic and at that time I didn’t know any other female promoters except my girl so it was wide open.
What are some obstacles that you have faced?
There are many obstacles, but the largest hurdle I have had to jump is that I’m a woman and that’s front and center. Men have tried to take advantage of me, women have spread rumors and all in all its a lonely business. While everyone is enjoying themselves you are working, always.
Tell us a little about the events you’ve hosted…
My event resume is long so just check out the Facebook! and Myspace for those details…in short Avalon, Embassy, Modern, Axis, Zsquare, 360, Jovans, Mirage, Sanctuary, Umbria, The Wave.
Most memorable event you’ve had so far?
My favorite party was a dream come true for me. I created it in my mind and made it come alive along with partners and friends….The Privilege Party 2007. Absolutely every night at Hot N Heavy Thursdays at Avalon was an out of body experience. I love doing celebrity, athlete and concept driven events.
Share any advice for upcoming/aspiring female promoters?
Be an apprentice first, you are not as good as you think you are when you first start. Observe and be humble. Be innovative. Take Risks. Learn to promote without social media. Pass a flier. Call someone. Always take care of your people, they will always take care of you.
Great advice! Want to show some love to anyone?
Of course all those that have supported me through my ten year career, the Deltas, the Cabo Verdeans, the team members through the years (Stacey, Mark, Norm, Yolanda, Rufus, Rudy, Amoni, Lydia, Delilah, Jazmine….to name a few) I need to especially shout the old school promoters and lady promoters its always so hard for us. A shout to my sisters and friends who ride with me through EVERYTHING. They go to every event or try hard to (Babes, Brooke, Cinda, Tanya, Linda, Shauna, Stacey, StephB, Analisa, Cherese, Starr, Diane, Gi, Star, Lil Steph, Miriam, Sahadia, Jess and Cris)
