DJ, Emcee, and Official Party Rocker DJ ReaL P (Chimel Idiokitas) has established himself as a BOSS in Boston’s Nightlife and Entertainment Scene. Specializing in your favorite genre, REAL has the knowledge of music to play R&B, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Oldies, Top 40, Kompa, & House. Being one-fifth of the Legendary Sound Revolution Family, REAL has built his career on QUALITY & PASSION for the music.

When did you start DJing?

I started DJing in 2001. One of my best friends Big Jigg actually sold me my first pair of Gemini turntables for $50. With only 2 records I used to lock myself in my room for hours and record everything on cassette.

How’d you get the name Real P?

The name Real P is actually short for RealPolitikz. That name was given to me by my 10th grade History teacher who claimed I would make a great politician. I told him “NA!!” Im too REAL for that. And it stuck.

Lets keep it REAL, are you originally from Boston?

I was born in Houston, TX, but Im sooooo Boston. Grew up in Roxbury with 6 brothers and both parents who are both from West African descent.

What makes you different from other DJs?

I know music, I make music, and I love music. Alot of DJs just think its pressing play, I think its more-so telling a story. So if you hear me DJ you will notice how I try to connect songs, sounds, or even phrases.The computer DJs who just compile music and dont actually appreciate them are killing the game.

When do you usually listen to music?

Before, during, after, anytime I’m listening to all kinds of music. Thats the only way to understand your craft is to breathe it. So I feel like there should be no point of the day where theres silence. Music is soothing, whether its rap, jazz, rock, or even soca.

What influences your music?

My biggest influences are my parents. Growing up I heard all types of music from Motown Classics, to Soukous, to Gospel, to Reggae. Without that I dont think I would appreciate the whole spectrum of music and Djing. The only DJ who I would love to mold my career after is Funk Master Flex. His presence on the radio or club is incredible. Hes the only DJ that can break records and make it a hit on the spot. I hope to be respected like that soon enough.
