Bir Witness is the true definition of an M.C. He has rocked clubs in Boston, Brooklyn, and even hosted three events of his own as the mastermind behind Money And A Dream Entertainment earning him recognition as a M.C who knows how to not only rock the crowd but build a solid fanbase of 500 in less than two months time with a buzz off doing show’s like he’s on tour and a mixtape entitled Almost Perfect. He has built his brand from the ground up as an engineer, producer, artist/poet, and CEO of an indie label Money And A Dream Records. He is Bir Witness, the dreamer from Roxbury, the poet from Blue Wave, the M.C with a B fitted on strong in New York who stopped looking for a record deal and signed himself.
How did you know that music was your calling?
My first show was in Brooklyn, New York at the 5 spot. I was two songs into my album and got booked for New York. I was definitely representing my city and got respect after a twenty minute set. I felt real confident after that show and rocked 18 more this year. The show’s never stop, they enhance my performance in the studio, and gave me the fuel I needed to accomplish so much this year with cosigns left and right and a hustler’s flow that never slowed down. Even after the radio play I knew I could do this music when I picked up that microphone and rocked crowd after crowd from opening up for Johnathan Gate’s, Bow Wow, and rocking my own concert, rocking Club Pearl on Carribean Night with Hustle Hard, that was crazy, haha. Hustle hard ain’t a reggae/dancehall song, give me props, I know exactly what I’m doing.
What are some of the artist’s accomplishments thus far?
I’ve accomplished a mixtape, a full length album, having performed more than half my album on stage this year, a indie label with a stable of artist, promotion team, many shows, my own concert, feedback from industry cats , and cosigns by everyone important you could come up with in Boston including Antonio Asaldi. I walked in his shop with my dude and spit a verse that he respected, Dyme magazine CEO cosigned me after I spit him and 617live 20plus verses earlier this year. A solid fanbase and a well respected name and brand Money And A Dream. People lose they mind when I freestyle, so ya I’m focused on more accomplishments for 2010. Also CEO of Noir Boston Kenneth River’s saying he’s one of my biggest fans and showing support all this year and RhoamingParties Showing support and recognizing my hardwork and dedication to my craft.
What are the artist’s future goal in the music industry
My future goals are working with artist who have also perfected their craft and endulge in creativity and do what I do, make good music. I will continue to rock crowds so I see big concerts and strive to attract attention for some type of world tour. That’s my goal cuz I’m in the fastlane right now. I’m promoting positivity and keeping it 100 with my fans and definitely rocking some more youth impowerment show’s.
Out of all the songs that you have recorded which one means the most to you, and why?
The song that means the most to me is Truly Amazing. My single off my album is my favorite. It show’s maturity and growth from how I use to rap. I really zoned out to that one and your soul is my element is deep enough to reach any female deserving the description of Truly Amazing. It’s my way of saying thank you. Hustle Hard was the my show track but Truly Amazing reminds me of a vibe I can only describe as motivation to do more in life.
What are some trials that the artist face?
I was a mistake growing up. I was a trouble maker, a hard head, rebel without a cause, and loved Hip Hop. Hip Hop really did save my life. It’s therapy to step in the booth and share with the fans my struggle and have it be appreciated and asked for more. My father is blind with kidney disease, I would have liked to speak on that differently but that’s what it is. I would spend 5 days a week overnight in the studio and rush home to take care of him. That’s my biggest struggle as an artist. He’s proud but him being blind hurts when he says he wishes he could see his kids faces again. I wrote a song entitled So Tired off my album with two 25 bar verses explaining what a life changing year its been with his diabetes and how I seen it. Both my parent’s cried when I showed them on there anniversary. That was big for me, because when I recorded the track it was tough, I wrote the verses while sitting next to his hospital bed describing the visit in the first half of the song. One word: Epic
Can you give some epic advice to any upcoming/aspiring Artists/groups?
My advice to the dreamers is to not only dream but if you strongly believe in yourself than do what a label would do and put so a lot of money behind it, your missing meals, sleeping in the studio, doing free shows in order to do paid ones in order to reach your goal. The dream take’s money, real talk. You can’t be successful without promotion but I’m a stop there before I spill all the jewels out my bag, look at my feet Jordan’s, look at my ear’s, diamonds, look at my hand, a microphone with a cord connected to my future. Believe in yourself, just not too much because that ego will overshadow your talent. Do shows or you’ll never know how good you are.
Great advice, now time for the shout outs!
* I wanna give a shoutout to the whole Money And A Dream Family, Greenlight, Moe Love, DJ Ack, Nox, Life, Ms.Truly Amazing ( you know who you are) my Heritage Drummer Fam, Cheif, my cuz Jwill, and anyone who supported me since day one.
