How did you start DJing?

I love and have always had a passion for music. I grew up around it and it rubbed off on me. My father worked in the media industry in Nigeria and had a Saturday night radio show that hosted the best African DJs, and being around that inspired me to express my love for music in the form of DJing.

Where is DJ Obi from?

While I was born in the states, I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, and claim that side of my upbringing.

What should someone expect, at a party that you are DJing at?

I always say “pull out your passports, cause I’m gonna take you on a musical journey around the world,” and that is what anyone that experiences DJ Obi at any event should expect. I love to play music that no one has heard or is even used to. I love to play with the beats and drums of songs, and when people hear drums there’s only one thing to do DANCE!!!!.

What makes you different from all the other DJs?

One obvious thing that sets me apart from most DJs, is my culture coupled with my unique style of mixing and blending international music with your everyday tunes. It will be hard for me to become a radio DJ because I can’t stick to just one genre of music. I play U.K funky House, Afro Hip Hop, Afro beats, B-more, House, Soca, Zouk etc. You name it and I play it, if I don’t have it, I will find it.

What is your mentality before you DJ an event?

I like to be challenged and would never back down from a reasonable one; I see all my gigs as challenges. So I go in hard, like there’s no tomorrow. I like to build momentum at the parties and events I DJ, that way I take you to the peak where the only way to go forward is to take you higher and leave you craving for more of DJ Obi at the end of the night.

Which is the most memorable event that you DJed at and why?

I don’t have one in particular, but the highlights of my DJing career is when I get to travel and play at different venues in different states or countries.

Who are your biggest influences?

The likes of DJ Jimmy Jatt (Nigeria), DJ AM, DJ F.X2 (Nigeria) Danny Diggz.

Big ups to the entire Ajuonuma family (we are media royalty), Rabi & Abi, Rhoaming entertainment, Smitty (for my first gig ever) Raw Stepperz Ent/ Twin Experience, Roy afrique, Kenneth (Noir), Jelly Me (my UK P.R), NDJ (the hottest coalition of Nigerian DJs) and everyone that has supported and believed in me from the beginning, This is just the start of greater things to come in the future.
